Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Chamber of Commerce do? We are a non-profit corporation incorporated on March 3rd 1930 as a Merchants Association serving the Sequim-Dungeness Valley. Prior to incorporation our organization served the farmers, entrepreneurs and pioneers since the early 1900's. Today the organization works to strengthen the local economy, advocate for its members and the community, advance community excellence, and deliver value to its members.

Where is the Chamber located? Our offices are at 1192 E. Washington St. Sequim WA and are connected to the Visitor Information Center.

What geographic area does the Chamber Serve? Our area of emphasis is the Dungeness Valley Watershed - which shares its boundaries with the Sequim School District. From Blyn to Fairview - incorporating Sequim, New Dungeness, Carlsborg, and Agnew. We have members that are located outside of our region, but are involved in business in our valley, and all are welcome.

What is the relationship of the Chamber to City Government? The Chamber of Commerce provides professional services via contract to the City of Sequim to operate the Visitor Information Center. This is funded through Lodging Tax. The Chamber is an independent 501(c)(6) not for profit organization and is not a department of city or state government.

How is the Chamber funded? We have recently diversified our funding streams to develop more resiliency and longevity into our business practices. About a third of our funding comes from our Membership, a third from grants and event programming, and a third from our contracts with local government - which is exclusively used to operating the Visitor Information Center.

What local issues is the Chamber involved in and why? One of the major goals of the Chamber of Commerce is to be the voice of business. Advocating for our members has proven critical to not only our members, but to the overall health of the community over the years. There are many examples of how the Chamber’s involvement facilitated progress in the community, including road projects, new attractions, job creation, school and city bond issues, and quality of life amenities we enjoy today. Our strategic plan for 2021 emphasizes collaborative work on Workforce Development, Broadband Access, Affordable/Attainable Housing and Childcare Access because these are major barriers to commerce in our community.

How many Members does the Chamber have? There are 350+ members of our organization, and we average around 30 courtesy members. Our Chamber is very robust for a community of our size, which we believe indicates a high level of involvement and concern for community among our business community. 90% of our members are small businesses employing under 50 people.

How can I file a complaint about a business or company? The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce is not a government agency, and therefore has no authority to investigate how companies conduct business. You can file a complaint against a business with the Federal Trade Commission Bureau of Consumer Protection and the Better Business Bureau.
